THE CLIENT: 30-year-old woman
THE PROBLEM: New immigrant to Canada, used her own money to
purchase house for herself and her husband. Wife couldn’t qualify for
mortgage as she was not a citizen, so title was registered in Husband’s
name only. They got married, but separated two years later. Husband
wouldn’t sell and wouldn’t give her a penny.
THE RESULT: Wife got full investment back plus Husband paid her legal fees.
THE CLIENT: 58-year-old man
THE PROBLEM: Husband was incarcerated for assaulting Wife. Wife
pursued separation and tried to take advantage of the situation by
claiming disproportionate share of the assets.
THE RESULT: Husband retained 50% of the family assets.
THE CLIENT: 39-year-old woman
THE PROBLEM: Abandoned by husband. Depressed and too weak-willed to ask for support. Having to borrow money just to pay the bills.

THE PROBLEM: Hired previous lawyer to determine if foreign
divorce was valid. Lawyer charged her $3,000.00 to conduct phony
research. Claimed divorce was valid.
THE RESULT: Divorce was not valid after all. Arranged for new, valid divorce. Sued 1st lawyer and got client’s fees refunded.
THE CLIENT: 25-year-old man. Father of young child.
THE PROBLEM: Father separated from Mother. Saw son once every
few weeks. Mother denied access repeatedly. Kept all school and
health information a secret from Dad. She asked court to permit her to
take child to Europe for vacation.
THE RESULT: Caught mother in a lie. She was intending to move
permanently to South Africa with child. Father got joint custody, full
access to health & education records. Mother not permitted to leave
Canada without Father’s written consent. Father has child two days a
week plus every other weekend, Christmas holidays, March Break and three
weeks in Summer.
THE CLIENT: Mother of two young children
THE PROBLEM: Reluctantly signed joint custody agreement with
Husband. Husband now driving her crazy, criticizing everything she does
with children.
THE RESULT: Joint custody agreement set aside. Obtained court order granting Wife sole custody.
THE CLIENT: Wife, mother of two teen-aged children
THE PROBLEM: Husband was physically abusive to Wife & kids.
Excessively frugal. Refused to turn on heat during winter. Kept
total control over all spending. Wouldn’t let wife buy food, clothing.
THE RESULT: Husband ordered to leave matrimonial home. Husband to pay child support. Family is thrilled to finally have a normal life.
THE CLIENT: 45-year-old man
THE PROBLEM: Client was ordered to pay spousal support 10 years
earlier. Lost his job but didn’t tell his ex-wife. Arrears of
$149,000.00 owing. Drivers’ license suspended, passport frozen. Tax
refunds being garnished.
THE RESULT: Support obligation terminated. Drivers license and passport restored. Support arrears reduced to $22,000.00.
THE CLIENT: 68-year old woman
THE PROBLEM: Unemployed and disabled. Husband has left her for another woman.
THE RESULT: Wife granted $2,500 per month in spousal support
plus full benefits. Wife also got half of Husband’s pension. Husband
died suddenly, a few months after settlement. Wife received survivor’s
pension plus her half share that was negotiated as part of settlement.
THE CLIENT: Wife, recent immigrant from Pakistan, mother of two young children.
THE PROBLEM: Wife needed child support and spousal support.
Husband was physically abusive to Wife & kids. He threatened to
abduct children and take them back to Pakistan, where women have few
legal rights.
THE RESULT: Husband ordered to pay full support. He can only
see the children if supervised by a professional. He was ordered to
surrender his passport.
THE CLIENT: 58-year-old woman, could not read English.
THE PROBLEM: Husband tricked her into signing divorce papers.
She didn’t understand what she signed. Husband kept home and other
assets, left her with nothing. Limitation period passed, too late to
sue Husband.
THE RESULT: Limitation period extended, wife got half of property, spousal support.
